Marvellous Friday Marvellous Photo: Dissection

This photo is from a book from what to seems to be a great publisher, Blast Books. It is called Dissection: Photographs of a Rite of Passage in American Medicine 1880-1930 by John Harley Warner and James M. Edmonson, and it's a collection of rare photographs Medicine students took of themselves with the cadavers they dissected. Marvellous Monday Marvellous Artist: Jack Teagle

Jack Teagle is an illustrator from England, and as you can tell from his work, he is quite the geek. That's a good thing.

"He enjoys collecting Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spiderman, Ultraman, Ghostbusters, and Toxic Crusaders Figures. He also likes reading comics and watching classic horror films", you can read on the about page on his website.

When I look at his work it takes me back to a period in childhood a lot of us who liked doodling went through, trying to draw the characters from our favourite comic books and cartoons. Of course they probably never looked as cool as these. 

I always admire artists whose work looks very spontaneous and natural, and Jack Teagle is no exception to that. You look at his illustrations and comics and you just can tell he has a lot of fun working.

My favourites are probably the scans of his sketchbooks, with covers he decorates himself. Two of them themed, "Football" and "Animal Heads". I would love to do something like that sometime.

He mixes his illustrative and figurative own world with his fantastic skills has a graphic artist, transforming the rigidness of  digital image flowing imaginative shapes and situations.

Marvellous Monday Marvellous Artist: Noriko Ambe

 

I really like this.

Noriko Ambe started cutting the paper in 1999, sculpturing books and blocks of paper.

 

Before doing this type of three-dimensional work, she used to paint huge landscapes in the attempt to represent something sublime and the infinite space. Now, she's interested in observing the power of the changing growing shape.

 

Using an X-Acto knife to cut through many layers of paper, Ambe laboriously brings her projects to their final state, which tends to resemble a finely featured topography. Using the five senses, perceiving the natural qualities of the materials, the process of creating is equally as important as the finished work.
